Acording to the Randstad human resurces consutancy report, employment in the logistic and transport sector has increased considerably to 1.057.575 employers in Spain. In ohter words, this is the highest figure in the last 10 years.

However, within all the profiles that exist in the sector, do you know which are the most popular in demand? Acording to the Job and Talent 2021 report by Logistic Forum, the ten most in-demand and most difficult to fill profiles are:

Logistic and transport profiles in demand:

  • Professional drivers. The professional drivers, is in charge to transporting orders and distributing them to the end customer. This profile requires a mechanical person, with good orientation, determination and problem solving skills. It is a job that requires a lot of of commitment due to the long hours spent away from home, with many hours spent on the road.
  • Traffic managers. The traffic manafer is in charge of plane an coordinate activities and transport routes. In adittion, he or she is responsible for the somoth rouning of the fleet and for ensuring compliance with national and international legislation and the internal rules of each company.
  • Logistic project engineers. The logistic project engineer is the responsible to optimisation of logistic and supply chain processes. This responsability involves carring out innovation projects to develop novel processes supported by new technologies and to promote continuous improvements insde and outside the warehouse.
  • Forklift drivers and warehouse staff. The warehouse personnel are responsible for handling, storage, stock replenishment and order fulfilment, among other tasks. In recent times, the automation of certain tasks has helped to improve and complete the responsibilities of this professional profile, so workers must be familiar with new technologies.
  • Supply chain directors. The suupply chain director is responsible for the correct planification, sourcing, purchases, storage, transport and customer service. He or she is responsible for managing all goods and services for his customers. Among other functions, he also negotiates and supervises contracts with suppliers and keeps control of stock.
  • Commercial managers. The comercial manager is responisble of all commercial operations of the company. He or she develop the company’s commercial strategy with board of directors, manages commercial budgets. In addition, works with the marketing department to establishes the digital strategy.
  • Business develop managers. The business develop manager is responsible for the strategic planning of the organisation. This porfile is responsible for researching the most interesting markets, competitiors, business opportunities and the development of different products and articles.
  • Logistic managers. The logistic manager organises the teamwork, establishes the objectives and minimises risks and errors. They also control the correct preparations of orders or picking, plan the distribution and the mercancy transport. Moreover, optimise the supply chain.
  • Business intelligence experts. The business intelligence expert have programming skills. This helps them to process data and improve the company’s decision-making in order to achieve its objectives. In addition, this profile encourages the identification of the most effective and quickest routes and manages logistics centres more efficiently.
  • Fleet managers. The fleet manager choose the types and the quantites of vehicles to purchase, taking into account the objectives and size of the company. In addition, he or she is also responsible to coordinate the different drivers, maintaining the vehicles and optimising logistics.

Logistic sector trends

As the logistic sector grows in volume, it also grows in innovation and new tecnologies. In the same way, aspects such as digitalisasion, automation, the rise of e-commerce and the list mile, have generated a profound change in the professional profiles most in demand and valued by logistics companies. For instance, some of these professions did not exist in their current form just 10 years ago, and this is due to the high level of technification and digitalisation of the sector.

This trends will continue with the automation of distribution centres and the emergence of autonomous vehicles. New jobs in the logistics sector may continue to emerge.
