FM Logistic announces the completion of the Clean Ports 5.0 project, a strategic collaborative innovation initiative aimed at accelerating the transformation of the logistics-port ecosystem toward more efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced models.

Throughout the Clean Ports 5.0 project, which began in October 2022 and was carried out in collaboration with a multidisciplinary consortium, FM Logistic has played a key role in driving innovative solutions focused on three main areas: energy optimization, automation through collaborative robotics, and technology validation in controlled environments.

Energy optimization and decarbonization

In the area of sustainability, the project has advanced the integration of onshore power supply (OPS) solutions for ships, helping to reduce emissions during port operations. In this context, FM Logistic has led the development of algorithms designed to optimize energy hybrid scenarios, promoting more efficient power management and greater integration of renewable energy sources.

Advanced automation using artificial intelligence

Among the key technological developments is the implementation of an intelligent system for depalletizing shipping containers based on collaborative robotics and artificial intelligence. This solution integrates computer vision systems using RGB-D cameras and advanced recognition models for the precise identification and localization of goods. The system enables efficient coordination between operators and robots, optimizing task assignment in accordance with operational and safety criteria.

Technology validation and improvement of operational efficiency

To ensure the viability of the developed solutions, validation processes were conducted in laboratory settings, comparing manual operational scenarios with automated workflows. The results demonstrate significant improvements in operation times, as well as high levels of reliability in the machine vision systems and precision in the execution of robotic trajectories, laying the groundwork for their future implementation in real-world environments.

This project has provided a strategic opportunity to advance the application of innovative technologies in complex logistics environments. At FM Logistic, we are committed to solutions that combine operational efficiency and sustainability, and Clean Ports 5.0 has demonstrated the potential of collaboration to accelerate this transformation,” says Ángel Martín, Head of Continuous Improvement at FM Logistic Ibérica.

Strategic partnership

The Clean Ports 5.0 project involved a multidisciplinary consortium comprising the technology centers Cartif and Tecnalia; the companies Ignis, Aquiles, Astander, Eiffage, Scoobic, and Transbase Soler; the Valencia Port Foundation; and the consulting firm Leyton, which was responsible for providing advice and overseeing the project’s overall management.

The launch of Clean Ports 5.0 reinforces FM Logistic’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, actively contributing to the logistics sector’s evolution toward more resilient and responsible models.
