FM Logistic celebrates a new milestone in its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Modules B5 and B6 of its logistics platform in Illescas, corresponding to phase 6 of construction, have received the prestigious LEED Gold® certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which recognizes buildings that meet high standards of sustainable design, construction, and operation.

Opened on October 2, 2024, these two new modules add 19,736 m² to the platform’s total certified area, which now stands at 76,096.14 m² with LEED Gold® certification. This development consolidates Illescas as one of the leaders in sustainable logistics in southern Europe.

This certification is much more than technical recognition; it is validation of a long-term vision. At FM Logistic, we build infrastructure that not only meets our customers’ operational requirements, but also anticipates the environmental challenges of tomorrow,” says Juan Manzanares, site manager at FM Logistic Illescas.

Committed to sustainability from the design stage

Phase 6 of Illescas has been developed under strict criteria of environmental sustainability and occupational well-being. Among the actions implemented, the following stand out:

  • 54% savings in drinking water consumption thanks to the installation of low-consumption toilets and faucets.
  • 75% reduction in energy consumption through the use of a high-efficiency thermal envelope, LED lighting, optimized air conditioning systems, and solar water heaters.
  • Recycling of 86% of construction waste, managed and sorted into six different streams.
  • Use of materials with low volatile compound emissions, which improve indoor air quality.
  • Reduction of light pollution through careful planning of outdoor lighting.
  • Complete life cycle analysis of the building and incorporation of low-carbon concrete in both the structure and the pavement.

A benchmark for the logistics of the future

This achievement adds to other efforts that FM Logistic is developing in the field of sustainable construction, with the aim of achieving a positive impact on both the environment and the communities in which it operates. The Illescas platform represents a model of logistics development aligned with decarbonization, energy efficiency, and circular economy policies.

FM Logistic thus reaffirms its commitment to being a key logistics player in the transition to a greener economy, actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aligning its growth with the highest international standards.
